From Research to Market - Building a Financial Bridge

ACTION FOR RESEARCH COOPERATIONARC BREAKFAST 28 OCTOBER 1999

The next ARC breakfast will be held in the Europa Hotel on Thursday 28 October
1999 from 08.30-10.00. It will deal with some of the issues raised by the potential for commercialising research outputs.

Researchers, especially those in our universities and the NHS, will be aware of the increasing emphasis being placed by grant providers on the potential commercialisation of research outputs. In tandem with this is the growth in the provision of incubator units and greater scope for the development of the entrepreneurial culture within the research community.

One of the issues now confronting researchers who believe they have something with commercial prospects is how to find their way around the development agencies and support programmes that are currently on offer.

It would take a number of seminars to deal with these but we have decided for the purposes of the breakfast meeting to distil the wide spectrum of programmes into two key interest areas –

a. The operation of the University Challenge Fund and b. Innovative ways of funding “research to market” proposals.
